Our chickens finally started laying, and it feels like a real milestone. Between predator-proofing the run and dialing in the feed mix, it took a few months to get things right.
A few lessons from setting up the coop:
- Deep litter bedding has made cleanup dramatically easier.
- Free-ranging in the afternoons keeps the girls happier and the eggs richer.
- Nesting boxes need to be darker and more tucked away than we expected — they kept laying in the corners until we fixed that.
